In the year 2084 the global warming problem became more then an ecological issue. Fearing total destruction, the world nations joined forces and in less then two years a solution was found.
A complex of 14 satelites was to be placed on orbit. This satelite complex, was a technological wonder, through it, the world weather could be totaly controled. From rains to floods and from summer winds to tornados, the weather was in the hands of the human race that now fully controled the nature.
For a hundred years everything worked well, the planet almost returned to it's normal state... Untill one day...
One day one of the satelites was hit by a small asteroid and broke. A space mission was assembled in order to fix the satelite. When the shuttle has reached the stratosphere, it exploded. The researches showed that an EM field had been evolving around the globe since the 14th satelite broke, making it impossible to leave the planet.
Through several months the situation became more and more agravated. The weather went crazy, extreme heats followed imediately by freezing temperatures. Quickly the world was caught by pandemonium, demographics around the globe were droping by days, governments fell one by one. Civil wars started all around the globe.
Meanwhile the EM field evolved, soon it reached the ground surface, blowing up everything, from AAA batteries to nuclear plants and far worse the nuclear warheads burried deep underground.
Earth almost reached it's end. Few people have mangaged to escape this dreaadfull apocalypse.
After 30 years the atmosphere was cleared by the satelites, which were mainly built to react to radioactive atmosphere, the EMP field fell forever and after another 20 years, Earth became a life sustaining planet again, though it was totaly transformed.
Everywhere you looked, everything was a combination between the Grand Canyon and the Sahara desert. Cacti was the only vegetation that you could see, water resources were few and the air was tough to breathe. No animals have survived.
Yet hope was not lost, the few people that remanined were decided to start again, a new world.
....But that was not an easy task, each had his views on right and wrong, his weaknesses and strong points... So just like the old romans were saying:
"Si vis pacem, para bellum."
"If you want peace, prepare for war."
